Visa application

International participants may need a visa to attend Q-ESCAPE in Shenzhen. For more information about visas, please visit the Chinese Embassies webpage. It is also greatly suggested to consult your nearest Chinese consular representation the documents required to get a visa.

To get the visa, you will need to submit an application to the nearest Chinese Consulate or Visa Service Center in your country. Please make sure your passport has at least 6 months of remaining validity before you submit your visa application. The entire process generally takes one week (there is also express application service with higher rate). It is highly suggested you should allow sufficient time to go through the application process. Please note that the Consulate/Visa Center will keep your passport during that time.

Pratical Tips

Payment: The most widely used payment methods in China is through QR code system provided by WeChat or Alipay. Cash is accepted everywhere. Credit cards (Visa or Mastercard) are less common but can be used in major shopping malls. Language: Mandarin is the official language. English signage is available in tourist areas, but carrying a translation app or phrasebook is recommended.

Safety: Shenzhen is generally safe, day and night. However, as in any large city, keep an eye on your belongings and beware of pickpockets in crowded areas. Call 110 if you encounter any danger or theft.

Local Transportation

Taxi : Taxi is a very convenient way to get around in Shenzhen. You can get it 24hrs and the fee is well affordable. As most taxi drivers do not speak English, we recommend you print the address of your hotel in Chinese characters.

Metro: It is also a very convenient and cheap way to get around in Shenzhen. It has a dense network in major parts of the city. You can check the Shenzhen subway network to arrange your itinerary.

Map: If you are an iphone user, you can use apple map to search for publication transportation services. For android user, I am not aware of any map apps which both offer reliable local information and support the English language. The popular map app in China is Amap (or Gaode in pinyin). This map only supports Chinese language. One way to get around the issue is to use Bing map which supports English language but it doesn’t have an android app. Another downside of the map is that it doesn’t always provide the best public transportation option.

It is recommended to download the DiDi app (There are two versions. One is for global and another is for China. You should download the version for China). You can order rideshare services through it.
